The neighborhoods of Seattle give our city an eclectic and diverse blend of styles—from funky Capitol Hill to wholesome and traditional Queen Anne—and much more. Best of all, a variety of neighborhoods brings with it a diverse array of specialty shops and hot spots. We’ve picked our favorite food- and cooking-specific destinations, where you’re guaranteed to stumble upon some treasures.

A Taste of Asia
We love Uwajimaya in the International District because it carries the city’s largest selection of Asian groceries—fresh meat, produce, seafood, furikake (flaked flavored seaweed), tsukemono (with or without MSG) and even to-go meals such as haan daan, chow mein and tofu. Find all the ingredients for your latest attempt at making sushi or mastering pho beef noodle soup.

Uwajimaya, 600 Fifth Ave. S., (206) 624-6248

One Fish, Two Fish
Head to Magnolia for swordfish, sea bass, snapper and trout. The best source for fresh and wild seafood is family-owned and operated Wild Salmon, located in the heart of Fisherman’s Terminal, where much of the catch is bought direct from local fishermen. Some of our favorites include salmon patties, ready to grill and dip in tartar sauce, and live crab.

Wild Salmon, 1900 W. Nickerson St., (206) 283-3366

Hats Off to the Chef
You’re all set with the quality kitchen. Now all you’re missing are the expert-quality cooking and baking gizmos and gadgets. Any kind of cooking adventure starts at Seattle Restaurant Store in Shoreline. Professional-quality chef equipment, fixtures and furnishings such as a gourmet standard chafing dish or an electric panini grill are available at good prices.

Seattle Restaurant Store, 14910 Aurora Ave. N., (206) 362-4900

Chocolate Central
Nestled Downtown near the Pike Place Market, Chocolate Box is the first and only place where you can find many of  Seattle’s most talented artisan chocolatiers—Oh! Chocolate, Theo Chocolate, Fiori Chocolatiers, Fran’s Chocolates and more—all in one haven of rich and creamy melt-in-your-mouth chocolate, a gift just waiting to be opened.

Chocolate Box, 108 Pine St., (206) 443-3900

Jolly Good
Our forefathers started a revolution to get out from under the King’s thumb, but two centuries later, we’ve come to appreciate some products that are usually available only where the Queen still reigns. If you’re craving some brilliant British faves—such as Marmite, McVities, HP sauce or Ovaltine—cross the bridge to Redmond and enter the British Pantry, where you can find the treats you fancy—plus an authentic English bakery.

British Pantry, 8125 161st Ave. N.E., Redmond, (425) 883-7511
