Schuchart/Dow
The Seattle builders have been quietly constructing noteworthy residential projects since 2004

Schuchart/Dow is one of those partnerships whose combination of assets magically elevates it into something beyond the sum of its parts. A synthesis of collective experience, obsessive craftsmanship and business acumen, the company specializes in high-end primary and secondary residences, whether remodels or new construction. In 2007, their Tye River Cabin project in Skykomish, designed by Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects, won the National AIA Committee award in the custom- housing category.

Managing partners Jim Dow and George Schuchart and general manager John Hoedemaker bring to the Seattle design table a passion for the creative process, coupled with disciplined time-management and fiscal practices. In their collaborations with premier Seattle architects (including Tom Kundig, George Suyama, Eric Cobb and Stephen Sullivan) and exacting clients, they transform design visions into exceptional buildings. “Schuchart/Dow brings a level of aesthetic collaboration that goes beyond mere construction,” says Linda Humphrey, Seattle city editor for Metropolitan Home magazine. “They understand good design and can execute an architect’s vision far beyond a set of plans.”

One of the company’s distinguishing characteristics is its in-house stable of fine craftsmen who fabricate their own concrete, cabinetry, metalwork and custom furniture. “We approach projects in the old-school, hands-on way,” Dow says. “That gives us more control over quality and allows us to deliver first-rate products.”
